Child Health and Omega-3 and Omega-6 (Polyunsaturated Fats).
How do these effect your children's upbringing.

Child Health
If your child's performance in examinations is poor, if your child lacks concentration, if your child suffers from allergies, then it may be due to poor consumption of Omega-3 and Omega-6. Scientists and doctors have studied effects of deficient consumption of these 2 omegas. They have said children who take sufficient of these 2 omegas are better behaved, more intelligent and show much lower level of allergies.

What are these Omegas?
The 2 essential fatty acids for good health are Omega 3 and Omega 6. The body does not manufacture these internally. They have to be taken via your diet. However, it is important to take these in correct ratio.

Omega 3 is good for formation of cell walls and making flexible and them supple. It also increases oxygen circulation via the red blood cells. Its deficiency results in memory and intelligence decrease, irregular heart beat, hypertension. tingling sensation, poorer vision, diminished immune system; the triglycerides and LDL cholesterol level too go up.

It has been found that daily supplement of Omega 3 hastens brain development in children, grey matter growth increases, reading ability too increased.

Most diets eaten have much higher ratio of Omega 3 as compared to Omega 6. The ideal ratio should be as low as possible.

The best Omega Fat foods are Fatty Fish, Flax seeds, Walnuts and Canola oil. Most oil selling companies advertise that their oils are rich in Omega 3. Don't take it as the TRUTH. Below are comparison of some oils:-

Oil Omega 3 Content Percent Ratio Omega 3 : Omega 6
Olive oil 1 1:13
Sunflower ol 1 1:71
Safflower oil 1 1:88
Corn oil 1 1:57

Warning about Canola Oil

Know it that Canola Oil is prepared from Rapesed oil. Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living things and is an excellent insect repellent.

The above table shows that the best oil for consumption is Canola oil. However, there may be serious flaws in consuming this oil. Below are extracts from an an article at CANOLA OIL. We have reproduced below only a part of it. Please read the full page before taking a decision on Canola oil. You can, alternately opt for Soyabean Oil.

We've all been told at some time or another that canola is one of the healthiest oils on the market. Canola, which is an amalgam of the words "Canada" (whence it originated) and "oil," is actually derived from the rapeseed, a member of the mustard family which is generally unfit for human consumption and was once more commonly used as a potent pesticide and lubricant, among other things. Chemically, canola breaks down at 5% saturated fat, 57% oleic acid, 23% omega–6, and 10–15% omega–3.

The reason canola is particularly unsuited for consumption is because it contains a very–long–chain fatty acid called erucic acid, which under some circumstances is associated with fibrotic heart lesions.

Sally Fallon, author of Nourishing Traditions, notes that the omega–3 fatty acids of processed canola oil are transformed during the deodorizing process into trans–fatty acids. She relates that one study indicated that "heart healthy" canola oil actually created a deficiency of vitamin E, which, as many of us know, is essential to our cardiovascular health. And on the practical side of things, canola isn't that good either. Because of its high sulphur content, it goes rancid easily, and baked goods used with the oil develop molds rather quickly.

It has been very much in vogue in healthfood circles to praise canola oil as very healthy oil — high in polyunsaturates, while condemning tropical oils such as coconut or palm oil as being saturated and unhealthy.

The high praise for canola is propaganda put forth by the Canadian government because "canola," a hybridized rape plant, is one of that nation's chief export products. Rapeseed oil contains toxic erucic acid. Canola has much less erucic acid in it.
